Responsibilities

  • Establish, manage, and evolve the company's Data, AI and Automation processes, supporting senior management in developing and achieving the organisation's strategic plan.
  • Oversee the development and use of data, AI and Automation systems, driving the adoption of a centralised standard across Smiths Group and its divisions.
  • Solution innovative ways to organise AI and Automation processes through the creation and validation of algorithms, neural networks, and other machine learning techniques.
  • Provide leadership on the implementation of security & authorisations best practices for accessing AI and Automation solutions.
  • Work proactively with internal and key business partners to deliver analytic AI models through projects and BAU.
  • Help to solution, implement and maintain operating models that optimise onshore and offshore resourcing.
  • Manage and distribute workloads to the D&A team members, balancing their strengths and career aspirations.
  • Take a leading role in the growth of the team and support the development of D&A and Divisional team members through coaching and mentoring.
  • Develop Data, AI and automation solutions; test, deploy, and maintain intelligent systems.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and other engineers to integrate AI into broader system architecture.
  • Create a Roadmap that delivers the vision and embeds capabilities for master/reference data, data quality management, data cataloguing, data governance, and traceability.
  • Develop and manage data platform, data management, and tooling and access controls for all users.
  • Provide business-focused data-related guidance across data architecture, governance, and integration.
  • Ensure all D&A deliveries are performance assessed and can execute within acceptable response times.
  • Lead on the development and maintenance of dashboards, forms, and tools for non-technical users.
  • Implement and regularly review existing data management policies.
  • Collaborate across Smiths divisions to discuss data problems and support project specification development.
  • Support the creation of Data Analytic Models and Data Visualisations (e.g. PowerBI) within the Azure platform.
  • Own and govern the code promotion process for Analytic Models and Visualisation code sets.
  • Organise, store and analyse data efficiently while upholding security standards.
  • Manage PowerBI Licences, Gateways and Microsoft Visual Studio installed in Smiths.
  • Develop documentation and training material for applications.
  • Evaluate, design, implement and support new requirements or database changes.
  • Design and develop new analytics/models using new data sets.
  • Provide technical oversight for integrating new technology into existing data standards.
  • Monitor and analyse information and data systems to discover enhancement opportunities.
  • Ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and security of all developed solutions.
  • Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with upper management and external stakeholders.
  • Create and enforce policies for effective data management.
  • Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to legal and company standards.
  • Provide regular progress reports to your manager on BAU activities and project deliverables.
  • Regularly provide accurate availability/capacity reports for the D&A team.
  • Act as a mentor to new super users within the Divisions using PowerBI technology.
  • Lead the weekly team meeting, owning the agenda and encouraging engagement from the D&A team.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and computer vision.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, and R.
  • Strong knowledge of AI frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Experience in Data Science techniques and methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Thorough understanding of data security, management, and administration principles.
  • Proficient at digesting and analysing large amounts of data.
  • Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions.
  • Experience in working with offshore and onshore support models.
  • Experience in working with information technology.
  • Experience in BI tools (PowerBi, OBIEE, Tableau, QlickView etc).
  • Good knowledge of SQL language and simple analysis techniques.
  • Technical experience in On-Premise and Public Cloud Data Services.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure is a plus.
  • Understanding of Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark).
  • Able to create rich visualisations that represent underlying datasets.
  • Business functional knowledge to relate processes to underlying data.
  • ERP experience and implementations (nice to have).
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Passionate and curious about new technology and the tech industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • General understanding of PaaS Concepts - ideally in MS-Azure Cloud.
  • BI experience could be an asset.
