Job Description

Our Design Test Equipment team have a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Engineering Design Technician. As an Apprentice you will be given training in order that you will be responsible for designing test equipment for John Crane’s high end gas seals technology whilst liaising with our international service centres.

You will enroll onto a virtual college for this 3-year Apprenticeship, training will be delivered onsite by our training partner Train’d Up. This Apprenticeship is suited to someone who would like to learn on the job and work towards a Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering Technologies and gain your NVQ Diploma in Engineering Technical Support.

Upon completion of this Apprenticeship you may be eligible to progress onto a higher level apprenticeship.

This role is based from our headquarters within Slough working Monday to Friday normal office hours.

Full training will be given so that you will be able to:

  • Design, using CAD, and maintain technical drawings and data for testing equipment used on both John Crane Gas and Wet seals.
  • Work hands on being involved in problem solving for test equipment
  • Ensure designs are to correct standards regarding safety and design practices.
  • Manage the movement of test equipment between John Crane Service centres and storage within the Slough site.
  • Run reports to ensure test equipment is available for seals in our order book / test plan.
  • Support our suppliers that use tooling designed or originally used by John Crane.
  • Obtain quotes and off load work that cannot be manufactured in house to correct sub-contractor.
  • Load parts that can be made into Slough machine shop.
  • Support operations with issues with test rigs and test equipment.
  • Participate in CI events with regard to storage and process relating to test equipment.

Qualifications

The Individual

  • Shows a keen interest in a design engineering role, who would be keen to learn 2D & 3D CAD.
  • Be able to evidence some practical mechanical or engineering knowledge, gained at school/college or in your spare time through hobbies.
  • Who is committed to complete an engineering qualification.
  • Has 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at Grade 4 or above
  • A resource-oriented person, with an innovative mind.
  • Quick thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
