Workshop Foreman - Castleford

Smiths Hire are the Northwest’s Largest Independent Equipment Hire Company with 18 Hire It Centres located across the region. In a period of expansion, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Workshop Foreman at our Castleford depot.

We supply various types of equipment to the construction and industrial sectors, including plant and machinery. Our large fleet of delivery vehicles can supply almost any requested equipment.

Main responsibilities of a Workshop Foreman include:

1. Planning and allocating jobs to workshop staff daily, and monitoring completed work.
2. Understanding plant maintenance schedules and test results.
3. Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the fleet of equipment.
4. Attending breakdowns when required.
5. Ordering parts, managing purchase orders, receipting goods accurately, labelling stock, and managing storage/distribution.
6. Controlling stock levels of plant & parts through periodic checks.
7. Developing team members, acting as a role model, identifying training needs, and liaising with the Depot Manager.
8. Responding to communications such as emails and phone calls.
9. Supporting and deputising for workshop staff as needed.
10. Reviewing workshop workflow reports, rewarding performers, and addressing underperformance.
11. Maintaining and improving health and safety standards.

Essential skills and qualifications include:

1. Ability to prioritise workshop jobs according to customer demands and seasons.
2. Strong multi-tasking and team leadership skills.
3. Driving licence (essential).
4. FLT licence (beneficial).

Working hours: Monday – Friday (no Saturdays).
