The Role
A key position in the Global Training & Documentation Department’s ability to deliver successfully in the UK and worldwide, a Junior Technical Documentation Writer will collaborate with a variety of internal, global stakeholders to support delivery of customer-facing documentation. The role holder will need to support the delivery of the Global Documentation Strategy and incorporate this into documentation deliverables.
Supporting the Technical Documentation pillar of the Global Training and Documentation department, the role involves delivering technical documentation activity required for our customers both internal and commercially. The role holder will be rapidly developing in their own technical skills to support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation under the guidance of more senior writers. This role assists in delivering documentation needed by internal teams and external customers, while learning industry standards and Smiths Detection processes and tools.
This is a great career opportunity for a graduate or a strong writer keen to move into technical writing – we can teach the technical side. You’ll support the team in creating and updating clear, user-friendly manuals and guides for our products. Day-to-day, you’ll:
- Help draft and edit technical documentation under guidance.
- Join project meetings to gather information.
- Work with engineers and other teams to translate complex technical details into easy-to-understand content.
- Assist with diagrams, graphics, and troubleshooting guides.
- Support updates, translations, and storage of documents.
You’ll gain exposure to cutting-edge technology while developing professional technical writing skills in a supportive team.
Education requirements
- Degree or coursework in technical writing, communications, or a related field preferred. Recent graduates welcome.
- Familiarity with technical topics such as manufacturing, electronics, or mechanics is beneficial, but not required.
