Join to apply for the Technical Project Manager (Maternity cover for 14 months contract) role at Smith+Nephew. At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. Reporting to the Program Director, Wound Strategy and Transformation, the Technical Project Manager will be responsible for delivering technical transfers for Global Operations. The successful Technical Project Manager’s focus areas will include the delivery of end‑to‑end line, project transfers across S+N global operations and/or PFG Suppliers. You will work closely with technical work streams including Engineering, Quality, Regulatory and others.
Responsibilities
- Program / Project Design (20%)
- Develop comprehensive execution plans including timelines, resourcing strategies, and risk mitigation.
- Lead program scoping and stakeholder alignment forums to establish clear and shared objectives.
- Planning / Delivery (50%)
- Execute and continuously improve strategic programs with well-defined goals, budgets, and schedules.
- Lead the development and implementation of robust project methodologies and governance models.
- Track and manage progress across workstreams, ensuring deliverables meet quality, cost, and time expectations.
- Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving to address project challenges with sustainable solutions.
- People Management (5%)
- Promote a results‑driven, collaborative culture within project teams.
- Support career development and performance management for project team members.
- Foster team accountability and alignment with program objectives.
- Change Management (20%)
- Lead stakeholder engagement efforts including roadshows, workshops, and communications.
- Develop communication forums for cross‑functional integration and conflict resolution.

- Manage cultural sensitivities and effectively navigate international team dynamics.
- Quality & Compliance Management (5%)
- Ensure all programs adhere to applicable compliance and regulatory requirements (e.g., QMS, FDA, SOX).
- Identify and proactively manage risks, ensuring mitigations are in place and documented.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Science, or Manufacturing required. MBA preferred.
- Experience: solid experience in program/project management within a mid‑to‑large corporate environment. Experience in the Medical Device Industry is required. International and cross‑cultural project experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as ability to interface effectively with employees and consultants of all levels throughout the organization.
- Areas of expertise ideally include: Manufacturing, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, Lean, PMP certification preferred.
- Skilled in strategic thinking and tactical execution simultaneously.
- Strong people skills, being part of and/or leading a multi‑discipline team with the ability to effectively manage projects impacting every area of the business.
- Proven ability to lead and influence without direct authority.
