Life. Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. We are looking for a senior technology leader who can move beyond systems and architecture to shape business outcomes. As IT Director, SAP S/4HANA Supply Chain Transformation, you will play a pivotal role in a global S4HANA transformation programme, influencing how manufacturing, quality, supply chain and inventory processes evolve globally. You will operate at the intersection of strategy, transformation and execution. This role demands someone who can influence at VP level, challenge the status quo and bring clarity to complex global environments.

What will you be doing? You will take ownership of the global Plan to Inventory solution space, not just as an architectural authority but as a transformation leader. From the outset, you will define the future state vision for how SAP S4HANA enables the business rather than simply supporting it. You will guide decisions that reduce complexity, streamline integrations and ensure the organisation is set up for scalability, compliance and long-term innovation. Working across global teams, you will partner closely with senior business stakeholders to shape the global template, influence strategy and lead business process transformation. You will challenge legacy thinking, build compelling business cases for change and clearly articulate the art of the possible with SAP. You will also lead and develop a team of architects, creating a high performing environment where accountability, ownership and innovation are expected. This is a leadership role where success is defined by the outcomes you enable across the business, not just the systems you deliver.

What will you need to be successful? To succeed in this role, you will bring a combination of deep SAP expertise and proven leadership capability. You will have moved beyond hands on configuration and be recognised for your ability to lead transformation at scale.

  • Demonstrated experience owning a functional solution area and driving enterprise wide transformation rather than delivering isolated projects.
  • Strong ability to influence senior stakeholders, including VP level, and shape strategic decision making across complex organisations.
  • A track record of simplifying technology landscapes, reducing unnecessary integrations and aligning systems to business outcomes.
  • Proven leadership capability, including building and leading teams, driving accountability and enabling high performance in global environments.

We are open to candidates from MedTech and Life Sciences, as well as other highly complex and regulated industries such as aerospace or advanced engineering. What matters most is your ability to bring foresight, strategic thinking and leadership to help build a best in class, AI enabled organisation. You will be someone who can demonstrate how to challenge technology decisions constructively, articulate the rationale for moving away from legacy systems, and ensure that every decision made is grounded in business value rather than technical preference. You will not just implement SAP. You will define what it enables.

Location: UK, Poland or Germany

Your Future: Generous annual bonus and pension schemes, Save As You Earn share options, and a car allowance. Work/Life Balance: Flexible vacation and time off, paid holidays and paid volunteering hours, so we can give back to our communities! Your Wellbeing: Private health and dental plans, healthcare cash plans, income protection, life assurance and much more. Flexibility: Hybrid working model (for most professional roles). Training: Hands-on, team-customised, mentorship. Extra perks: Discounts on gyms and fitness clubs, salary sacrifice bicycle and car schemes and many other employee discounts.

How to prepare for a job interview at Smith+Nephew

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.
