An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in custom built laboratories within the Environmental Fate and Metabolism Department of Environmental Risk Sciences, Smithers Ltd. Based in Harrogate, we are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician, ideally with previous GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and laboratory experience. Experience of quantitative LC-MS analysis would be advantageous.

You will be working within a dynamic team conducting a wide range of tests which are designed to help evaluate the potential risks of substances to the environment resulting from the manufacture and use of pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals and agrochemicals.

Training will be given in all aspects of the role, including:

  • Instrument set up and method validation
  • Sample batch analysis
  • Data processing
  • General laboratory and housekeeping duties

Responsibilities of the role may vary depending on your qualifications and relevant experience.

Qualifications and Experience

Ideally educated to BSc in Chemistry or a related scientific subject, or to A-level or equivalent with experience working in a laboratory. Interested applicants should have excellent IT skills, be well-organised, enthusiastic and demonstrate a hands-on approach to work with an ability to use their initiative and apply knowledge. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are essential.
