At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. We are currently looking for a Laboratory Analyst 1, who will work within a team, which takes responsibility for all aspects of the QA testing (including development, stability, complaints and regulatory compliance) of Medical Products and Devices so contributing to the smooth running of the business to ensure standards of customer care are maintained. The team is responsible for maintaining analytical methods and procedures which control the quality of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.

What will you be doing?

  • Applying high standards of occupational Health & Safety in the workplace, in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Testing raw materials, intermediates, and finished products in accordance with pre-approved methods, submissions, and protocols, comparing results against defined acceptance criteria.
  • Performing analyses using techniques such as ICP, GC, IR, UV-Vis, TOC, and other associated chemical tests; maintain test equipment in line with laboratory procedures.
  • Writing laboratory reports demonstrating compliance of test results and identifying trends.
  • Prioritising work activities in line with agreed lead times and due dates.
  • Completing calibration checks in compliance with laboratory calibration system requirements and schedules.
  • Ensuring all test and work procedures within the laboratory comply with safety requirements and applicable risk assessment controls.
  • Owning, reviewing, and updating standard operating procedures, work instructions, and test methods in line with document control requirements, ensuring compliance with associated validations where applicable.
  • Managing workload in line with designated lead times.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributing ideas to improve laboratory ways of working in line with site procedures.
  • Demonstrating initiative in problem-solving by identifying issues and recommending solutions.

What will you need to be successful?

  • GCSE Grade A, B or C (or equivalent) in at least a science subject and preferably English and Mathematics.
  • Some technical laboratory experience would be advantageous.
  • The ability to analyze data, identify trends and apply root cause and continuous improvement methodologies to drive meaningful change.
  • Communication and engagement skills.
