Smith Architects is a growing architectural practice based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, working across education, industrial, commercial and residential projects, alongside extensions and renovations. As a small team, we offer broad exposure across all project stages and the opportunity to work closely with senior staff on a wide variety of projects. We are currently looking for a Part II Architectural Assistant / Architectural Designer/ Architectural Technician to join the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who is looking to gain hands‑on experience across multiple sectors and project stages within a supportive, collaborative environment.
The role
- You will support the team with:
- Measured building surveys and as‑existing drawings
- Concept design work, presentations and project documentation
- 3D modelling and visualisations
- Planning Applications and Building Regulations drawings (depending on experience)
- Liaising with clients, consultants, contractors and statutory authorities
- Generally support through all RIBA stages 1 to 7
About you
- We’re looking for someone who:
- Has 1-2 years UK practice experience
- Is motivated, organised and proactive
- Has strong communication and presentation skills
- Ideally has experience with Vectorworks, Photoshop and InDesign
- Wants broad practical experience across all project stages
Our office is based in St Ives town centre with free on‑site parking and good public transport links. We aim to maintain a healthy work‑life balance with typical office hours of Monday to Friday.
