The Role

The IT Technician is a key member of the IT Department, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems across this 11-18 school. The role involves providing advice and support to all school community members, maintaining equipment, and offering daily support for the school’s IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and committed to working within the school\’s values to effectively deliver its vision.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support staff in logging Helpdesk issues and monitoring the Helpdesk System.
  • Respond to user helpdesk tickets, prioritising incidents and requests, resolving issues independently or seeking support for complex problems, and keeping staff updated.
  • Create, maintain, and deploy Windows images and updates across the IT infrastructure.
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of IT hardware and software, ensuring licence compliance.
  • Ensure mobile devices are encrypted, updated with system patches, and protected with anti-virus software.
  • Monitor daily backup routines on network servers to ensure successful completion.
  • Monitor internet filtering systems and classroom monitoring software to support ICT safeguarding practices.
  • Register student and visitor devices onto the BYOD network, assist with CCTV requests, and maintain logs.
  • Manage user accounts on network and cloud services, and provide first-line support for cashless catering systems.
  • Maintain network switches and Wi-Fi infrastructure, support Office 365 administration, and manage Active Directory.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of anti-virus software and other IT equipment.
  • Update the online asset register and perform inventory checks.
  • Support the installation of network cabling, biometric registration, and other IT projects.
  • Sourcing quotations for IT equipment and services, updating user guides, and managing protocols for equipment booking and media removal.
  • Assist with setting up IT and media for examinations and events, including stage lighting and audio equipment maintenance.
  • Support staff and students in creating media for curriculum and school activities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English grades A-C or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office applications
  • Experience setting up and configuring Windows 10 computers
  • Experience in PC maintenance
  • Understanding of PC security importance
