One day per week (part‑time) at Harleigh Road Dental Centre, Bodmin, Cornwall.

Position Summary

Deliver high‑quality minor oral surgery services to adult and child patients referred via the NHS Oral Surgery pathway across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, in a modern, purpose‑built clinic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality oral surgery services for adults and children referred by General Dental Practitioners, other dental services and healthcare professionals.
  • Perform triage of oral surgery referrals to ensure appropriate and timely care.
  • Manage and treat patients within the full scope of primary care oral surgery practice, including extractions (routine and surgical) and soft‑tissue procedures within scope of practice.
  • Provide post‑operative care and complication management.
  • Refer patients appropriately to secondary care or other oral surgery providers where necessary.
  • Deliver appropriate follow‑up care and patient education post‑treatment.
  • Provide detailed, accurate clinical notes and ensure continuity of care for patients requiring further treatment or review.
  • Maintain the highest clinical standards in oral surgery in line with GDC requirements, national guidance and evidence‑based practice.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, including regular audits, risk assessments, incident reporting and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support the Clinical Director and management team in driving service quality and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and infection control protocols at all sites of clinical activity.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues on oral surgery cases and referral management.
  • Support the development of team members who wish to expand their skills in oral surgery.
  • Mentor colleagues through case‑based discussions, observed procedures and clinical evaluations.
  • Engage in Smile Together Training Academy and external CPD opportunities to maintain and further develop clinical competencies.
  • Create and maintain a Personal Development Plan (PDP) aligned with GDC standards and individual goals.
  • Support the delivery of high‑quality induction programmes for new clinicians, particularly those involved in oral surgery or unscheduled care.
  • Actively engage with Smile Together teams and participate in peer review, audit, development sessions and internal meetings.
  • Contribute to service planning and delivery improvements with Clinical Directors and operational leads.
  • Support urgent and emergency care delivery when needed, including clinical collaboration with co‑workers.
  • Participate in organisational change initiatives and service development projects.
  • Represent Smile Together professionally as an ambassador for our vision, mission and values, leading by example.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and non‑clinical colleagues to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Provide unscheduled dental care services as required by the organisation.
  • Travel between Smile Together sites as needed, integrating effectively into each local team.
  • Treat target numbers of patients in accordance with agreed clinical expectations.
  • Ensure full compliance with Smile Together governance framework, clinical protocols and documentation standards.
  • Report accidents, incidents and near‑misses using the company’s reporting procedures.
  • Maintain effective IT skills, particularly in the use of the Practice Management System and digital clinical records.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable responsibilities as requested by the Clinical Director or management team.

Pay Structure

Assessment only, where treatment isn’t completed: £15 per patient. Fully completed treatment (assessment and treatment) with a submitted course of treatment: £45 per patient.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • GDC registration (without conditions).
  • Experience in oral surgery within primary, secondary or community care.
  • Confidence and competence in managing a range of oral surgery cases.
  • Southwest Programme Performer Number and PIN.
