Smile Education are recruiting for an experienced School Cook to support a school in Wolverhampton. This is a temporary position with the potential for ongoing work for the right candidate.
The Role
As a School Cook, your responsibilities will include preparing and serving nutritious meals for students and staff while maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the school kitchen and supporting a positive dining experience for all.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals in accordance with school menus and dietary requirements.
- Ensure food is prepared and presented to a high standard.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness at all times.
- Comply with food safety regulations, HACCP procedures and health and safety guidelines.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering supplies as required.
- Store food correctly and ensure stock rotation procedures are followed.
- Clean kitchen equipment, work surfaces and food preparation areas.
- Serve meals to students and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
- Report any equipment faults, maintenance issues or health and safety concerns.
- Work effectively as part of the catering team and support the wider school community.
- Contribute to creating a welcoming and positive dining environment.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Cook, preferably within a school, education, care or commercial catering setting.
- Knowledge of food hygiene regulations and food safety procedures.
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above preferred).
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage workload effectively.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to cater for dietary requirements and allergens.
- Subject to Enhanced DBS Check / satisfactory references.
