Smile Education are currently recruiting for a Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to support one of our partner schools in the Walsall area. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced and compassionate teaching assistant looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

About the Role: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to:

  • Support children on a 1:1 or small group basis with a range of needs including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech & language difficulties
  • Help pupils access the curriculum by adapting learning activities to their individual needs
  • Provide emotional and behavioural support, promoting a calm and inclusive classroom environment
  • Monitor progress and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies when required
  • Maintain safeguarding standards and follow school policies and procedures

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and has the skills to support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A Level 2 or above qualification in Childcare, Education, Teaching Assistant, or Health & Social Care
  • Recent experience supporting SEND pupils in a school setting (mainstream or special school)
  • Confident in behaviour management and using de-escalation strategies
  • A proactive and reliable team player who can also work independently
  • Holds an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply for a new one through Smile Education
  • Able to provide two references covering the last 24 months, including at least one commenting on your work with children
