Smile Education are recruiting for an experienced Kitchen Manager to start immediately at a welcoming primary school in the Birmingham area. This is a full-time, term-time position with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.

The Role

  • As a Kitchen Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the school kitchen, ensuring pupils receive high-quality, nutritious meals in a safe, clean, and efficient environment.
  • You will lead the kitchen team, oversee food preparation, maintain food hygiene standards, and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day running of the school kitchen
  • Preparing and serving nutritious meals in line with school menus and dietary requirements
  • Supervising, supporting, and organising kitchen staff
  • Managing stock levels, ordering food and kitchen supplies, and controlling waste
  • Ensuring compliance with Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, and allergen legislation
  • Completing all required food safety and temperature records accurately
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment
  • Liaising with school staff regarding menus, special dietary requirements, and service delivery
  • Ensuring equipment is maintained and reporting any faults promptly

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Kitchen Manager or Senior Cook within a school, education, or commercial catering environment
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 3 desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene regulations and health & safety requirements
  • Experience managing a team within a busy kitchen
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and use initiative
  • Current Enhanced DBS Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Fully vetted and able to start immediately
  • Ideally located within a reasonable commuting distance of Birmingham
