Smile Education are recruiting for an experienced Caretaker to start immediately at a large secondary school in the Oldbury area. This is a temporary position expected to continue until the end of the academic year. The role offers a full-time working pattern of 37 hours per week. The role as a Caretaker will play a key role in maintaining the safety, security, and day-to-day operation of a large, modern secondary school. Working as part of the site team, you will support the upkeep of the premises, assist with compliance requirements, and help ensure the school environment remains safe, functional, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the school site
- Carrying out general repairs and maintenance tasks across the premises
- Assisting with health and safety checks, site inspections, and compliance procedures
- Supporting the management and monitoring of building systems within a modern new-build school
- Ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, and well-maintained at all times
- Assisting with contractor management and site access where required
- Maintaining accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, and health & safety
- Responding promptly to maintenance issues and site requests
- Working collaboratively with colleagues whilst also being able to work independently
Requirements:
- Previous experience working within a School Site Team or as a School Caretaker in a secondary school setting (essential)
- Experience working within a large school environment
- Good understanding of compliance procedures and health & safety requirements on a school site
- Experience managing or monitoring technological systems within a modern building environment
- Strong maintenance and practical repair skills
- Organised, reliable, and able to use initiative effectively
- Good time management and the ability to prioritise workload
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Current Enhanced DBS Certificate
- Fully vetted and able to start immediately
- Ideally located within a reasonable commuting distance of Coventry
