Smile Education is working in partnership with a secondary school in North Manchester to recruit candidates for PE-focused roles. The school is currently looking for confident Cover Supervisors who can cover PE and support across wider subjects when required, and to recruit a qualified PE Teacher for a September 2026 start. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a background in teaching PE, sports coaching, sport-related education, or school-based cover supervision.

About the Role

As a PE Teacher or PE-focused Cover Supervisor, you will support students in physical education, promote participation, teamwork, confidence, and healthy lifestyles. Cover Supervisors may also be required to deliver pre-planned work across other curriculum areas when needed. The school values candidates who can work independently, maintain strong behaviour management, present themselves professionally, and settle quickly into the school’s routines and expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver or cover PE lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Cover wider curriculum lessons where required, using pre-planned work
  • Support students in engaging with physical activity safely and positively
  • Promote health, fitness, participation, teamwork, and confidence
  • Maintain strong behaviour management in line with school policies
  • Adapt sessions to meet the needs of pupils with varying abilities
  • Follow school systems, routines, and expectations confidently
  • Support extracurricular sport, fixtures, and school events where required
  • Present yourself professionally and uphold school standards
  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times
Requirements
  • Hold QTS for the PE Teacher role starting in September
  • Have experience teaching PE, delivering sport, coaching, or working in a school-based cover role
  • Have a sport-related degree or qualification, preferred for Cover Supervisor applicants
  • Be confident covering PE and, where required, other subject areas
  • Demonstrate strong behaviour management and classroom control
  • Be independent, reliable, professional, and adaptable
  • Have a clear interest in sport, fitness, and student development
  • Be able to engage and motivate students of all abilities
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one
  • Have the right to work in the UK
