Smile Education is recruiting a Behaviour Manager to work within a secondary school in Salford.

This pastoral and behaviour-focused role supports high standards across the school and involves leading the school’s internal reflection provision, ensuring students are supervised in a purposeful, restorative and structured environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders, pastoral teams, behaviour staff, curriculum teams and parents or carers to identify barriers, support improvement and promote positive conduct across the school.

Role Overview

As Behaviour Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the school’s internal reflection room, ensuring students complete meaningful academic work, reflect on their behaviour and are supported to reintegrate successfully back into lessons.

The role will also involve tracking behaviour referrals, monitoring restorative conversations, supporting on‑call duties, maintaining corridor presence and contributing to behaviour panels or reintegration meetings where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the internal reflection provision and ensure it remains calm, purposeful and restorative.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, conduct, engagement and work completion.
  • Ensure students complete appropriate academic work while in reflection.
  • Track and report on behaviour referrals, patterns, frequency and student progress.
  • Monitor restorative conversation systems and support follow‑up actions.
  • Liaise with pastoral and behaviour teams to support reintegration plans.
  • Support on‑call duties, corridor presence and de‑escalation where required.
  • Deliver behaviour interventions for individual students or groups.
  • Contribute to behaviour panels, reintegration meetings and planning discussions.
  • Provide feedback to curriculum and pastoral teams on student behaviour and engagement.
  • Build effective relationships with parents and carers to remove barriers and support students.
  • Support the development and implementation of whole‑school behaviour policy and practice.
  • Use ICT and school systems to record behaviour information and produce clear reports.
  • Promote inclusion, equal opportunities and positive relationships across the school.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people across the secondary age range.
  • Experience in a pastoral, behaviour, inclusion or internal exclusion role is strongly desirable.
  • A broad understanding of effective behaviour strategies and procedures is essential.
  • Confident supporting students at risk of suspension or repeated behaviour concerns.
  • Experience implementing pastoral support programmes or behaviour interventions is desirable.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents or carers.
  • Strong organisation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Motivation skills to encourage students and maintain high standards in a school environment.
  • Competent ICT skills, including the ability to record information and produce clear reports.
  • Experience using Arbor or CPOMS is desirable.
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent are required.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equal opportunities.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.

  • £140–£200 per day, dependent on experience and placement responsibilities.
