Smile Education is recruiting an experienced Site Assistant to start immediately at a large secondary school in the Coventry area. This is a temporary position expected to continue until the end of the academic year. The role offers a full-time working pattern of 37 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 6:00am–2:00pm and Friday 6:00am–1:30pm, with a 30‑minute unpaid break each day.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the day‑to‑day maintenance and operation of the school site
- Carrying out general repairs and maintenance tasks across the premises
- Assisting with health and safety checks, site inspections, and compliance procedures
- Supporting the management and monitoring of building systems within a modern new‑build school
- Ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, and well‑maintained at all times
- Assisting with contractor management and site access where required
- Maintaining accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, and health & safety
- Responding promptly to maintenance issues and site requests
- Working collaboratively with colleagues while also being able to work independently
Requirements
- Previous experience working within a School Site Team or as a School Caretaker in a secondary school setting (essential)
- Experience working within a large school environment
- Good understanding of compliance procedures and health & safety requirements on a school site
- Experience managing or monitoring technological systems within a modern building environment
- Strong maintenance and practical repair skills
- Organised, reliable, and able to use initiative effectively
- Good time management and the ability to prioritise workload
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Current Enhanced DBS Certificate
- Fully vetted and able to start immediately
- Ideally located within a reasonable commuting distance of Coventry
