Are you an experienced Primary Teacher with a passion for supporting children with ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and behaviours that challenge? Do you believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed with the right support, structure and encouragement?
Smile Education is working in partnership with a welcoming Primary SEN Hub to recruit a dedicated SEN Teacher. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a specialist provision attached to a mainstream primary school, supporting pupils who benefit from smaller class sizes, tailored teaching and additional pastoral support. The SEN Hub provides a nurturing environment for children whose needs cannot always be met within a mainstream classroom, while promoting inclusion and preparing pupils for successful integration where appropriate.
If you're passionate about creating positive learning experiences, building strong relationships and helping children overcome barriers to learning, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
As a Primary SEN Hub Teacher, you'll teach a small class of pupils with a range of additional needs, with a particular focus on ADHD, emotional regulation, attention difficulties and behaviour support. Working alongside experienced Teaching Assistants and the wider SEND team, you'll deliver engaging lessons that are carefully differentiated to meet individual needs while helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence. You'll understand that behaviour is a form of communication and will use positive, consistent strategies to help children regulate emotions, build trusting relationships and re‑engage with learning.
Your Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the National Curriculum.
- Adapt learning to meet a range of SEND needs, particularly ADHD and SEMH.
- Create a calm, structured and predictable classroom environment.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, self‑esteem and social development.
- Implement positive behaviour strategies that promote engagement and independence.
- Work towards individual EHCP targets where applicable.
- Assess and monitor progress, adapting teaching to meet changing needs.
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, parents and external professionals.
- Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships.
- Celebrate progress in all its forms, recognising that success looks different for every child.
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for a teacher who is committed to inclusive education and understands the importance of building meaningful relationships with children who require additional support. You'll have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching within a Primary setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with ADHD, SEMH or behaviour needs.
- Strong behaviour management using positive and restorative approaches.
- Excellent classroom organisation and communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm, patient and consistent in challenging situations.
- A creative and flexible approach to planning and delivering lessons.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Primary SEN Hubs or Resource Bases
- ADHD support strategies
- SEMH
- Trauma-informed practice
- Restorative approaches
- Positive Behaviour Support
- Team Teach or similar de‑escalation training
