The Role
As a Specialist SEN Teacher, you will deliver engaging, personalised lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs. You will create a positive, inclusive learning environment where children feel safe, valued and encouraged to succeed. You will be responsible for:
- Planning and delivering creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
- Adapting mainstream curriculum content and producing specialist learning resources.
- Using assistive technology and innovative teaching strategies to make learning accessible.
- Managing behaviour confidently and positively to promote engagement and progress.
- Assessing, monitoring and tracking pupil progress through regular marking, assessments and detailed reports.
- Writing, reviewing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contributing to EHCP targets.
- Working collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Liaising with parents, carers and external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Educational Psychologists, to ensure the best outcomes for every child.
- Fully immersing yourself in the wider school community and embracing all aspects of school life.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience teaching children with Special Educational Needs within an SEN school, specialist provision or specialist hub.
- Excellent behaviour management skills.
- The ability to differentiate learning effectively to meet a wide range of abilities and needs.
- A caring, patient and resilient approach with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a large professional team.
- High levels of empathy, adaptability and emotional resilience.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Be able to provide two years of professional references, including comments on your interactions and work with children.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one through Smile Education.
