Location: Erdington, Birmingham (B24)

Salary: Β£165 - Β£230 per day (depending on experience)

Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term | September 2026 Start

Smile Education is proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Erdington that is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN Teacher to join their dedicated Autism Resource Base. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive school community that places inclusion, wellbeing and personalised learning at the centre of its ethos.

The successful candidate will teach a small class of pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated communication and sensory needs, delivering engaging lessons that help every child achieve their individual potential. The school has invested heavily in specialist resources, sensory spaces and experienced support staff, allowing teachers to focus on delivering high-quality teaching within a structured and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver creative, engaging lessons tailored to pupils' individual EHCP outcomes.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to suit a variety of learning styles, communication needs and sensory preferences.
  • Foster a safe, predictable and positive classroom environment that encourages confidence and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with experienced teaching assistants, the SENCO, therapists and external professionals.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupil progress, celebrating achievements and identifying next steps.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers through regular communication and review meetings.
  • Support pupils' emotional regulation using consistent routines and positive behaviour strategies.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has previous experience working with children with Autism and additional learning needs.
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom management and behaviour support strategies.
  • Understands the importance of differentiated teaching and inclusive practice.
  • Is patient, adaptable and committed to helping every child succeed.
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
