About the Role
Smile Education is currently supporting a specialist SEN school in recruiting a compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Swim Instructor to work with students aged 14–17. The school supports young people with a range of additional needs including autism, learning disabilities, communication difficulties, and sensory needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about inclusive education, wellbeing, and helping young people build confidence in the water.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, engaging, and inclusive swimming lessons
- Adapt teaching methods to meet a range of SEN needs and abilities
- Promote water confidence, independence, and physical wellbeing
- Work closely with school staff and support assistants during sessions
- Maintain a calm, positive, and supportive environment
- Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and pool procedures at all times
Requirements
- ASA/STA Swim Teaching Qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable
- Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
Desirable
- Lifeguard qualification
- Previous experience within an SEN or school setting
