Smile Education is proud to be working in partnership with a Special Educational Needs (SEN) primary provision in Sandwell, supporting their ongoing recruitment of Special Needs Teaching Assistants. This vibrant and inclusive school is seeking dedicated and skilled staff to assist with both day-to-day absence cover and longer-term placements, following additional funding granted to support students with complex needs.

About the Role

You will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with a range of needs, primarily those with:

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

Your role will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support
  • Assisting with personal care (where necessary)
  • Supporting pupils in achieving their academic and social goals
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and families to ensure consistent support and communication

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (Health & Social Care or equivalent qualifications will not be considered)
  • Recent experience working in a special needs school environment – this is essential
  • Proven knowledge and hands-on experience supporting children with PMLD and/or SEMH
  • Able to provide suitable references covering the past 2 years, specifically detailing SEN experience
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply for a new one through Smile Education
