Smile Education are recruiting for a PRU Behaviour Mentor to work within a PRU provision at a secondary school in Oldham. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, challenging behaviour, trauma backgrounds or barriers to learning.
The Role
- Support secondary-aged pupils who may struggle to engage in mainstream lessons.
- Work closely with teaching, pastoral and behaviour teams to help pupils regulate behaviour, access learning and build positive routines.
- Involve one-to-one support, small-group intervention, behaviour mentoring, restorative conversations and supporting pupils to re-engage with education.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs.
- Work with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis.
- Help students regulate behaviour and remain engaged in learning.
- Support pupils at risk of exclusion or repeated behaviour concerns.
- Use calm, consistent and restorative behaviour strategies.
- Assist with reflection, reintegration and intervention work.
- Build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
- Support classroom routines, transitions and pupil engagement.
- Record behaviour, engagement and intervention notes where required.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
Requirements
- Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour is essential.
- Experience in a PRU, alternative provision, SEMH, SEND, behaviour support, pastoral, youth work, mentoring, coaching, care or residential setting is desirable.
- Confidence working with pupils who may present challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
- Calm, resilient, reliable and professional attitude.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- Able to build trust with pupils while maintaining high expectations.
- Graduates with Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Education or Youth Work backgrounds may also be considered where they have relevant experience with young people.
- Must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
