Smile Education are currently recruiting on behalf of a Leicester pupil referral unit that requires additional support in their Primary Phase. The school is keen to meet Teaching Assistants/LSAs to work with a small number of their SEN/SEMH pupils in KS1 on a long‑term basis. These positions will start in the new academic year and will run for at least an academic term, quite possibly longer for the right candidates.

Position Details

  • School: Pupil referral unit (Leicester)
  • Salary: £80‑100 per day
  • Team: School‑based SEN team
  • Contract: Long‑term
  • Hours: Full‑time

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or a degree in Psychology or Special Educational Needs.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of SEND, especially interest in Autism.
  • Relevant previous experience with pupils who can be challenging at times.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, including compliance with DBS, prohibited list, barred list, and qualifications checks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to primary students with SEND and SEMH needs, working closely with the school‑based SEN team to develop and implement individualized support plans.
  • Build a strong working bond with pupils, facilitating their participation in inclusive education and ensuring their well‑being throughout the term.
  • Assist in planning and delivering lesson components, monitoring progress, and communicating with teachers, parents, and external professionals as appropriate.
