Smile Education are recruiting for a school-experienced Head of Year to start immediately for a school in Telford. This role will be full-time, Monday – Friday, 08:00–16:00.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a designated year group, promoting student achievement, behaviour, and wellbeing.
  • Support and guide tutors within the year group to ensure consistent pastoral care and behaviour management.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and academic progress for students in the year group.
  • Identify students requiring additional support and implement targeted interventions.
  • Meet regularly with students and parents/carers to support engagement, behaviour, and progress.
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership Team, SENCo, Inclusion team, and other staff to address concerns and promote a positive school environment.
  • Act as a role model and advocate for the year group, promoting school values and standards.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, wellbeing, and pastoral provision across the school.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience guiding colleagues or teams.
  • Proven ability to support students’ behaviour, welfare, and academic achievement.
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents/carers, and staff.
  • Organised and proactive in monitoring progress and implementing interventions.
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and fair in challenging situations.

We would like applicants to have prior experience in a pastoral or leadership role within a school setting, ideally with experience as a tutor, behaviour/pastoral lead, or similar.
