Smile Education are currently recruiting a qualified English Teacher to work within a secondary school in North Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed English specialist to join a large, inclusive and diverse school environment with high expectations for teaching, learning, behaviour and student achievement. The role is suitable for experienced teachers and ECTs who can deliver engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4.

As an English Teacher, you will teach English across KS3 and English Language and Literature at KS4. You will plan and deliver well-structured lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, communication, analytical and critical thinking skills. You will be expected to contribute to an ambitious English curriculum, support pupils of varying abilities and help ensure all students can access the subject successfully. The school values teachers who can build positive relationships, maintain strong behaviour expectations and contribute to the wider academic, social and personal development of pupils.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Teach English Language and Literature at KS4.
  • Work closely with the English department to support schemes of work and curriculum delivery.
  • Use effective teaching strategies to engage, challenge and support all learners.
  • Differentiating lessons for pupils of varying abilities, including SEND and EAL.
  • Monitor, assess and support pupil progress.
  • Use assessment information to help raise achievement and participation.
  • Maintain strong classroom and behaviour management in line with school policies.
  • Contribute to departmental planning, development and enrichment where required.
  • Support pastoral responsibilities where appropriate, including tutor or partner tutor duties.
  • Promote literacy, communication and wider curriculum skills.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures, professional standards and the school’s ethos.
Requirements
  • The successful candidate will hold QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Applicants should have a degree or academic background in English.
  • Experience teaching English within a UK secondary school is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of the KS3 and KS4 English curriculum, including GCSE English Language and Literature.
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to create a focused learning environment are essential.
  • Commitment to working in a diverse school community and supporting pupils from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan sequential lessons, use assessment effectively and support pupils in making progress.
  • Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills are required.
  • Applicants must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
