SEN Teacher – Autism Resource Base
Smile Education is partnering with an inclusive primary school in Erdington to recruit an experienced and compassionate SEN Teacher for their Autism Resource Base.
This role involves teaching a small class of pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated communication and sensory needs, delivering engaging lessons that support each child’s individual potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver creative, engaging lessons tailored to pupils’ individual EHCP outcomes.
- Adapt teaching strategies to suit a variety of learning styles, communication needs and sensory preferences.
- Foster a safe, predictable and positive classroom environment that encourages confidence and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, the SENCO, therapists and external professionals.
- Monitor, assess and record pupil progress, celebrating achievements and identifying next steps.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers through regular communication and review meetings.
- Support pupils’ emotional regulation using consistent routines and positive behaviour strategies.
- The Ideal Candidate
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Has previous experience working with children with Autism and additional learning needs.
- Demonstrates excellent classroom management and behaviour support strategies.
- Understands the importance of differentiated teaching and inclusive practice.
- Is patient, adaptable and committed to helping every child succeed.
- Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
