If you’re reading this you probably know the importance of Net Zero. This is your chance to play your part in working towards it.
You’ll be contributing to the design and optimisation of high-performance, low-carbon buildings, low-carbon building design, energy and indoor environmental modelling, and operational performance in the built environment.
You will be working on projects across a wide range of building types including residential, mixed-use, leisure, commercial, industrial, healthcare and educational.
You’ll be using software to predict what effect a building will have on the environment. The energy models you build will predict building energy consumption, CO2 emissions, peak demands, energy cost, and renewable energy production. They can even predict a person’s thermal comfort and visual comfort; for example, does it get too hot, and is there enough daylight in a room.
There will also be plenty of reports to prepare, and regular consultancy work with clients.
Your degree should have some relation to Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or similar. You should ideally have some knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and building physics.
If you have any knowledge or experience with BREEAM, IES, Revit, TAS, One Click LCA, or AutoCAD that would be great, but don’t worry if not as full training is provided including working with a mentor. You’ll get ongoing development, including working towards chartership.
