If you’re reading this you probably know the importance of Net Zero. This is your chance to play your part in working towards it. This environmental legislation consultancy is somewhere you can feel proud to work, knowing you are helping to improve sustainability in the built environment. It’s a friendly team of around 30, with a mix of ages and backgrounds; you’ll feel supported while learning the job. The senior management team are accessible, and encourage ideas and discussions. There is a fun and sociable working environment, but the team is also highly professional and technically focused.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING…
You’ll be using the latest IES VE software to predict what the effect that a building will have on the environment. The energy models you build will predict building energy consumption, CO2 emissions, peak demands, energy cost, and renewable energy production. They can even predict a person’s thermal comfort and visual comfort; for example does it get too hot, and is there enough daylight in a room. A key part of the role will be liaising with clients, including architects and engineers; you’ll be preparing technical reports for them, and using your analytical skills.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT…
The business has a very good record of employing graduates, and many have gone on to have successful careers, including some who are now in more senior roles. You’ll learn a lot from experienced colleagues, and will quickly be given responsibility to manage your own work and time. There is a big focus on ongoing learning and development. You’ll be doing courses, and working towards professional accreditations; all the while improving your range of knowledge. Going forward, there are other areas you can get involved in (for example BREEAM), as the business likes the team to be multi-skilled. And as your skills develop, so will your pay. You should be on upwards of 30k within 6 -12 months or so.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED…
In terms of degree type, something construction or engineering related would be ideal. As would anything related to Sustainable Energy. Any knowledge of building physics, or building services, would be particularly good. There is some flexibility, though there should be some link to this area of work. If you have some knowledge of OneClick LCA, or IES VE software, that would be ideal. No problem if not, you can learn it. But as an indicator of aptitude you should have used something like Revit, or AutoCAD. You’ll need strong time management and analytical skills. And you should be comfortable speaking with people. Due to the difficulties involved in relocation, you will need to already be within commutable distance of Bristol (or specifically looking to move there, and easily able to do so due to connections). Within 20 miles or so is ok. The business offers flexible, hybrid, working, so once you are trained up you should be able to work from home for part of the time.
