As an Applications Engineer, you will act as a bridge between clients and the engineering teams. You’ll be able to use your technical knowledge and people skills. The business designs and manufactures a range of environmentally friendly rotating mechanical equipment that is used by businesses in a range of industry sectors (for example Oil and Gas, Chemical, and Pharmaceutical). You don’t need to have any experience with these, as training is provided.

There is a sales team who make initial contact with customers and find out what they are looking for. This will then be passed on to you. You’ll look into the complexities and make sure that everything is ok in relation to engineering standards and specifications. And then you’ll turn this into a quote and follow it through to when it’s handed over to the internal project team. You’ll be making recommendations, changing things as required, negotiating, and maybe even going to see the client.

It’s an interesting job. It’s not a sales role, as there are other people doing that (and they will be the ones closing any deal), but you’ll be playing a big part in the process of bringing the business in. There are great future prospects with the business. Graduates who started in this role with the business are now in a range of roles, including Project Manager, Sales Engineer, Heavy Engineer, and Line Manager. This includes some senior leaders. Start date is as soon as possible.

What you'll need:

  • A Mechanical Engineering related degree (Chemical Engineers will also be considered).
  • You will need plenty of confidence, as you’ll regularly be speaking with internal teams and clients. You don’t need to be hugely outgoing, as long as you are able to hold yourself well in conversation.

What you'll get:

  • An above average starting salary (amount will be discussed on the initial call).
  • Flexible start/finish times.
  • Bonus scheme after qualifying period/pro rata for first year.
  • Healthcare cashback scheme.
  • 4% employer 4% employee pension contribution.
  • 4x life assurance.
  • Cycle to work scheme.

Where you'll be based:

Eastbourne, on the south-coast. Some employees commute from other areas, including Brighton and Hastings. The offices are near to the train station.
