The role of Director exists to primarily lead marketing activities, origination of new business, execution of transactions and providing strategic and business development support to senior management in delivering the team, unit and department's budget and objectives. The role may require supervision and/or training of junior staff and involvement multiple teams of internal and external staff in changing and high-pressure situations to deliver results. The role also requires strong communication skills as there will be various interfaces both within the wider SMFG organisation locally (marketing & support departments), across EMEA and globally as well as externally including client facing dealing including marketing, at the most senior level.

The role sits within the ISD Africa Group team, reporting into the Head of Africa Group. Generally, the role would involve front line origination, execution and credit & process management role, with geographical scope in Africa.

  • Originate, lead deals with a focus on the FI/MDB/Sovereign segment, and provide strategic and business development support to the head of the team, senior management, unit and department's budget and objectives.
  • Outline detailed business strategies covering all types of clients (Corporates, FIs, Sovereigns, Multilaterals, etc), aligned with internal Credit / Risk approach and benchmarking on industries and clients, utilising deep knowledge of geography and client segment.
  • Perform and supervise credit analysis for existing and new target clients.
  • There is a customer facing element to the role covering primarily FI/MDB/Sovereign clients. The role may be expected to have its own network of customers, advisors and other industry players.
  • Internally, the role would interface with various other departments in EMEA, Branches across the regions and other global divisions to colleagues in Nikko CM and other SMFG entities.

Build and maintain senior client relationships especially in the FI, MDB and Sovereign space. Originate deals, manage client relationships, cross sell bank's products. Structure financing solutions for client base, in conjunction with product teams. Establish relationships with industry peers and key local, regional and international players. Establish relationships with key stakeholders internally with the support and product functions across the banking group.

As appropriate, input and guidance on financial modelling and analysis. Understand the Bank's internal procedures and processes, and relevant regulations and compliance matters and applying them correctly and in compliance with all rules and regulations and monitoring and supporting junior staff in doing so. Work on asset management, and other areas of ISD wider business as requested. Deal with customers for origination of regulated products including telephone and face to face meetings. Prepare externally facing marketing materials in line with the guidelines and seek compliance approval. Take responsibility for a specific customer group (market, product region). Increase exposure to team management responsibilities for more junior staff and by contributing to senior management initiatives. Provide information to clients on SMFG products and services, including investment products. Participate in industry events to represent the banking group.
