We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Fire Alarm Service Engineer to join our growing team. This role covers the full lifecycle of fire alarm systems, including servicing, fault-finding and repairs. You will act as a senior technical point of contact, providing leadership on-site and mentoring junior engineers. The role also includes participation in the out-of-hours on-call rota, responding to urgent service needs in line with our 24/7 support commitments.
The role is mobile, primarily covering the Midlands, with occasional travel to surrounding areas. Sites will vary in size and complexity, requiring a flexible and proactive approach. A company van, tools, laptop, and phone will be provided to support you in your role. We offer a training and development programme to help you continue growing your technical skills and progress within the business.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conduct planned and reactive maintenance, servicing, and fault diagnosis on addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
- Perform full system tests, verify cause & effect logic, and ensure integration with life safety systems (e.g. sprinklers, access control, emergency lighting).
- Respond to emergency call-outs as part of the on-call rota, delivering effective solutions under pressure while maintaining excellent customer service.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, promoting best practices and high standards.
- Liaise directly with clients, site managers, and contractors to ensure project and service expectations are met.
- Accurately complete service reports, commissioning certificates, and compliance documentation.
- Support the team with system upgrades, remedial works, audits, and quotations.
- Ensure full compliance with BS 5839, fire safety legislation, and health & safety policies.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years experience in fire alarm servicing and commissioning, ideally across a range of systems and site types.
- Proven commissioning experience with leading fire alarm systems (e.g. Gent, Notifier, Advanced, Kentec, Apollo, Hochiki, etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge of BS 5839 and applicable standards and legislation.
- FIA certification (Units 15) or equivalent. ECS, CSCS, or relevant trade card preferred.
- Strong technical skills in fault finding, loop testing, cause & effect programming, and panel configuration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and confidence working on high-profile or complex systems.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and represent the company professionally on client sites.
- Full UK driving licence (or equivalent).
- Willingness to participate in the on-call rota (typically one week in (x), with overtime or call-out pay).
- Desirable: Experience with integrated life safety systems (e.g. fire suppression, emergency lighting, BMS).
- Manufacturer training (Gent, Advanced, Notifier, etc.).
- Health & Safety certifications (IPAF, PASMA, SSSTS) advantageous.
- Knowledge of commissioning software tools and laptop diagnostics.
