SmartStream is a global software and managed services provider to the world’s leading banks, asset managers, custodians and broker dealers with offices in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific and the US.
Within the Finance team the Cost and Reporting Controller is responsible for the accounting, analysis, and reporting for headcount and several key areas of the Group’s costs along with producing monthly analysis and reporting to budget holders and executive management to assist with performance monitoring and key decision making.
Responsibilities
- Support the Cost and Reporting Controller by preparing the initial analysis and reporting.
- Ensure the accurate recording of headcount in the finance reporting system, working with HR to ensure that new starters are correctly coded and an understanding of open vacancies for forecasting purposes.
- Prepare analysis and reports on headcount, monthly movement and against budget.
- Assist with month end journals.
- Prepare analysis and reports for several key areas of the Group’s costs, including month-on-month and variance to budget analysis, e.g.:
- 3rd party costs of sales
- Discretionary Marketing
- Contractors
- Facilities
- IT & Communications
- Corporate costs, including legal
- 1st line calculation of development costs for capitalisation, including analysis of time data and costs, and obtaining the required information from the product management and development teams. Maintenance of the related asset register.
- Detailed monthly analysis of travel costs by traveller.
- Prepare reports to budget holders, including headcount and costs:
- Product line reporting
- Business line reporting
- Department reporting
- Participate in the forecasting and budgeting processes.
- Ad hoc analysis and project work as required.
Qualifications and skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in delivering accurate work
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to meet scheduled deadlines and prioritise diverse requests
- A positive attitude and willingness to be involved in tasks to ensure success
- Good written and spoken English
