Job Description

The Cashier is responsible for delivering an efficient, accurate, and professional payment service while providing excellent customer service to all customers and visitors.

The role supports the smooth operation of catering, retail, and hospitality services by processing transactions, maintaining accurate cash handling procedures, assisting customers with enquiries, and ensuring service areas are presented to a high standard. The Cashier plays a key role in creating a positive customer experience and contributing to the achievement of operational and financial objectives.

Key accountabilities:

Customer Service

Deliver a friendly, professional, and welcoming service to customers always.

Respond to customer enquiries efficiently and courteously.

Promotes products, services, and offers to enhance the customer experience.

Resolve routine customer issues and escalate concerns where appropriate.

Maintain a positive and customer-focused approach in all interactions.

Cash Handling and Transactions:

Accurately process cash, card, and contactless transactions using point-of-sale (POS) systems.

Ensure all payments are recorded correctly, and receipts are issued where required.

Balance tills and complete cash reconciliation procedures in accordance with company policies.

Maintain security of cash, vouchers, and other financial assets.

Report discrepancies, errors, or suspected losses immediately to the line manager.

Retail and Service Support:

Assist with the setup, replenishment, and presentation of service and retail areas.

Ensure products are correctly displayed, stocked, and rotated where applicable.

Monitor stock levels and report shortages to management.

Support food service, hospitality, and retail operations during busy periods.

Assist with opening and closing procedures as required.

Health, Safety and Compliance:

Comply with all health and safety, food safety, hygiene, and company procedures.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.

Always follow cash handling and security procedures.

Report hazards, incidents, defects, or near misses in accordance with company procedures.

Ensure compliance with client, legislative, and organisational requirements.

Teamwork and Communication:

Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure effective service delivery.

Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and managers.

Share customer feedback and operational issues with the appropriate manager.

Participate in team meetings, training, and development activities.

Undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Basic numeracy and accuracy skills.

Ability to handle cash and process transactions accurately.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Reliable and professional approach to work.

Ability to remain calm and professional during busy service periods.

Previous experience in a cashier, retail, hospitality, catering, or customer service role.

Experience using electronic tills or point-of-sale systems.

Experience handling cash and reconciling transactions.

Experience working in a fast-paced customer-facing environment.

Qualifications

Good standard of literacy and numeracy

Customer Service Qualification.

Food Safety Certificate.

Retail or Hospitality Qualification.
