Job Description

We have an opportunity for an experiencedEmbedded Software Engineer to join our team in Edinburgh.

As part of the Microelectronics & Embedded Systems Team, this role will overseereal-time control and networking firmware for our next-generation hardware platforms.

• Design, implement, and test embedded C code for real-time applications running on microcontrollers and DSPs.
• Interface directly with hardware components (e.g., ADCs, DACs, sensors, communication interfaces).
• Participate in peer reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback with an open mind.
• Contribute to system-level debugging and bring-up, including low-level hardware-software integration and fault analysis.
• Document and share knowledge through well-structured code comments, design notes, and Confluence pages.

Qualifications

• Excellent C programming skills with solid design practices - modular, testable, and maintainable code.
• Strong understanding of RTOS concepts (TI-RTOS, FreeRTOS, or similar), including task scheduling, synchronisation, and handling of race conditions, deadlocks, and starvation.
• Proven experience with hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, and GPIO.
• Confident in hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and serial tools.
• Proficient with Git, Bitbucket, and JIRA for source control and issue tracking.
• Comfortable working with existing codebases, refactoring legacy code, and adhering to coding standards.
• A clear and proactive communicator who collaborates well across teams and disciplines.
• The ability to work independently, while collaborating effectively in cross-functionalteams.

The following would be advantageous:

• Experience with lwIP or other TCP/IP stacks.
• Exposure to industrial protocols (Modbus, MQTT, CAN, etc.).
• Experience working with TI microcontrollers (C2000, Cortex-M) or similar SoCs.
