Job Purpose: We are seeking a Senior Residential Children's Worker to play a key role in delivering high-quality, therapeutic care to children and young people within a residential setting. You will be responsible for leading shifts, supporting staff development, maintaining high standards of care, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and safeguarding requirements. The role involves unsociable hours, sleep-in shifts, and participation in an organised rota to meet the needs of the children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Care
- Deliver and maintain consistently high-quality, therapeutic care
- Act as Key Worker for allocated children and young people
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times
- Support the cultural, religious, ethnic, and individual needs of young people
- Lead and manage shifts effectively, ensuring appropriate staffing levels at all times
- Oversee care practice and support the development, performance, and skills of staff
- Promote structure, clear boundaries, and consistent routines within the home
- Ensure the home operates in line with its Statement of Purpose
- Contribute to care planning, statutory reviews, monitoring, and reporting
- Prepare reports and attend meetings, reviews, and multi-disciplinary discussions
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external agencies
- Support young people's educational progress and liaise with schools and professionals
- Take responsibility for accurate record keeping, petty cash, planning, and activity coordination
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure records are compliant with policy and regulation
- Follow Health Safety, Fire, and safeguarding procedures and complete risk assessments
- Carry out cooking, cleaning, and other home-making tasks
- Involve young people in daily living activities appropriate to their age and ability
- Attend supervision, appraisals, training, and staff meetings
- Demonstrate ongoing commitment to continuous professional development
- Promote equality, diversity, and equality of opportunity
- Participate in the on-call rota
- Provide cover for sickness and holidays
- Support the Deputy Manager as required
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 in Caring for Children Young People (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years experience working with children and young people in a residential children's setting
- Experience leading shifts within residential childcare
- Experience of care planning and statutory reviews
- Experience of multi-disciplinary working
- Strong experience in monitoring, recording, and report writing
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Willingness to work a 24/7 rota, including sleep-ins and weekends
