We are seeking Graduate Apprentice Smart Grid Engineers to join our growing Integration team based in Glasgow to help us in our mission to transform today’s energy systems! This is an exciting opportunity to learn from a team with a wealth of experience in the smart grid world, connecting new energy resources to the network.

What Will I Learn?

You will study at the University of Strathclyde to achieve a BEng (Hons) in Engineering: Design & Manufacture through a mixture of work-based learning, distance learning and monthly day release at University.

The role

  • Assist with designing data interfaces between SGS products and external systems
  • Prepare system requirements, functional specifications, and test specifications
  • Integrate control and field instrumentation, measurement devices, test rigs
  • Configuration, testing, and commissioning of control applications to assist in connecting more green energy to the grid!
  • System engineering for control and automation projects including software and hardware
  • Production of project documentation e.g., Manuals, design, and test specifications etc.
  • Provide aftersales support for projects including site visits when required

About you

  • You will be keen to build a career in renewable energy technologies and passionate about creating a more sustainable future for our planet
  • Interested in electrical engineering and using your technical skills to make a real impact
  • You will have a methodical approach to problems solving and have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An interest in areas such as software, testing, systems integration, control and automation

What you’ll need

  • Five National 5s or equivalent at grade C or above, which must include Maths and English
  • 4 Highers at grade B or above, which must include Maths (gained in 2025)
