Smarter Grid Solutions is a pioneering software technology company working at the intersection of clean energy, advanced digital technology, and power systems. We are a team of electrical engineers, software developers, and analytics & consulting experts working on the transformation of tomorrow’s electric grid – to become cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable. We spearheaded the introduction of Active Network Management in the UK, and we are now a world‑leading provider of Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) software to electrical utilities across the UK, Europe and North America.

We are looking for a diligent and enthusiastic Product Owner to help in our mission to transform today’s energy systems.

The Role

As Product Owner (PO) for Strata Grid you will be responsible for release planning, clear prioritisation, and backlog ownership focusing on bringing value to our customers. You will be part of a Product Team, headed by the Chief Product Officer, and supported by a Product Lead, UX Lead and Business Analyst. Your role translates Product Strategy, reflected in the roadmap, into coordinated delivery via release plans across multiple development teams. As Product Owner you are central to communicating what is needed and why to ensure stakeholders are aligned and that Software Development teams can deliver high‑quality outcomes.

We are looking for a team member who:

  • Has a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Is collaborative, pragmatic and outcome focused.
  • Is passionate about enabling teams to deliver meaningful customer value.
  • Has excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with audiences that possess diverse backgrounds.
  • Is enthusiastic, helpful and diligent.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop and use a wide range of product management experience in an exciting and growing organisation, which has customers in the UK, Europe and North America. You will be part of an exciting, friendly, clever and highly committed team, building and delivering important decarbonisation technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Ownership and Multi‑Team delivery
    • Own and prioritise a transparent product backlog that supports delivery across multiple teams.
    • Ensure each team has a clear, prioritised view of work, aligned to product goals and release objectives.
    • Provide clarity and fast decision making to unblock teams and maintain delivery momentum.
    • Actively participate in team ceremonies, including planning, refinement and retrospectives.
  • Release Planning and execution
    • Own the product release plan, aligning scope, sequencing and timing across multiple teams.
    • Work collaboratively with Software Development, Quality Assurance and wider stakeholders to plan, track and deliver releases.
    • Manage scope, risk, trade‑offs and expectations to ensure predictable and high‑quality releases.
    • Support release launch activities including communication, documentation and customer facing demonstrations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Act as the primary point of contact for delivery scope, priorities and release timing.
    • Communicate release plans, changes and trade‑offs clearly to stakeholders.
    • Manage expectations across business, technology and delivery teams.
  • Collaboration within the Product Team
    • Work with the Product Lead to translate the product roadmap into executable release plans.
    • This includes collaborating to define a definition of ready to accept de‑risked items from the roadmap funnel onto release plans.
    • Contribute to business development activities and ongoing alignment with the Technical Strategy, alongside the Product Lead.
    • Partner with the Business Analyst to convert user needs into requirements that need to be shaped, refined and validated ahead of being shared with the software development teams.
    • Ensure UX research, design and validation activities are embedded in release plans and partner with the UX lead to incorporate best practice from design systems and user experience.

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Extensive experience as a Product Owner working on complex software within a Scrum Agile framework.
  • Recent experience of B2B product software delivery.
  • Diverse experiences successfully shepherding major product development initiatives from start to finish.
  • Experience developing both modern web‑based applications as well as traditional desktop software systems.
  • Strong academic track record in a STEM subject.
  • Knowledge of emerging smart grid industry, power systems or electrical engineering in general would be advantageous.
