The Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Practice Director – Applications & EPR to join our Senior Leadership Team at a pivotal stage in the growth of SmartCo Future Health. This is a senior leadership role responsible for building, leading and growing our Applications Practice, with a particular focus on Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programmes and clinical systems transformation.
The Practice Director will lead the development of SmartCo Future Health’s EPR and digital applications consulting capability, supporting clients across the full lifecycle of transformation including strategy, procurement, implementation, optimisation and benefits realisation.
Practice Ownership and Strategic Leadership- Define and lead the Applications Practice strategy aligned to SmartCo Future Health’s growth ambitions.
- Build and scale a high-performing team specialising in EPR, clinical systems and digital applications.
- Manage a consulting portfolio with revenue responsibility expected to grow to £3–5m annually.
- Develop differentiated consulting propositions supporting EPR transformation.
- Contribute to firm-wide strategy and leadership as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
The Applications Practice supports organisations delivering large-scale clinical systems and EPR transformation programmes including EPR strategy and roadmap development, clinical systems transformation planning, EPR procurement and supplier selection, programme mobilisation and governance, implementation support and programme leadership, clinical engagement and operational transformation, post implementation optimisation and benefits realisation, and interoperability and integration across digital ecosystems.
Business Development and Market Growth- Develop and convert opportunities related to EPR programmes and clinical systems transformation.
- Lead consulting sales cycles from early engagement through to contract award.
- Build relationships with NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Systems and national bodies.
- Develop networks with CIOs, CDIOs, CCIOs, CNIOs and transformation leaders.
- Build partnerships across the EPR vendor ecosystem.
- Provide executive oversight across major EPR transformation programmes.
- Support programme directors and consulting teams delivering complex digital transformation initiatives.
- Ensure high standards of delivery quality, client satisfaction and measurable impact.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders.
- Maintain strong governance, risk management and quality assurance.
- Lead thought leadership on EPR and digital clinical systems transformation.
- Contribute to publications, roundtables and sector discussions.
- Represent SmartCo Future Health at industry events and conferences.
- Translate policy developments and technology trends into strategic opportunities.
We are seeking a senior leader with deep expertise in EPR transformation and digital health consulting, combined with strong commercial instincts and the ability to grow consulting practices.
Essential Experience and Skills- Significant experience leading EPR or clinical systems programmes within NHS organisations or consultancies.
- Strong knowledge of the EPR vendor landscape and NHS digital transformation programmes.
- Experience supporting EPR strategy, procurement, implementation or optimisation.
- Demonstrated success developing and closing consulting engagements.
- Experience operating at senior leadership or board level with NHS organisations.
- Strong commercial acumen managing consulting portfolios and revenue targets.
- Ability to build and lead high-performing consulting teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
