Smart4Sciences are recruiting for a Laboratory Technician on behalf of a leading global manufacturer specialising in advanced materials for the aerospace and high-performance composites industry.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing Materials Testing Laboratory, supporting the testing and development of innovative composite and adhesive products used in highly regulated industries.

Whether you're an experienced laboratory technician or have a practical engineering or materials background and are looking to develop your career, full training will be provided.

As the Laboratory Technician, you'll be responsible for manufacturing composite test panels, preparing specimens, carrying out mechanical testing, and producing accurate test data to support product development, customer qualification programmes and quality investigations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture composite and adhesive test panels using defined laboratory procedures.
  • Prepare, machine and test composite and adhesive specimens to recognised industry standards.
  • Carry out destructive mechanical testing using laboratory test equipment.
  • Accurately record, analyse and report test results.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory documentation to ensure full traceability and audit compliance.
  • Support product development, customer qualification projects and technical investigations.
  • Work closely with internal engineering, R&D and quality teams.
  • Maintain excellent laboratory housekeeping standards and adhere to all health & safety procedures.

Requirements

To be considered for the role, candidates should ideally possess

  • HNC/HND in Materials Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience working within a laboratory, manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Strong practical hands‑on skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with composite materials or adhesives.
  • Experience operating machining equipment or universal testing machines (Instron, MTS, Zwick or similar).
  • Knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Previous experience within aerospace, advanced materials or manufacturing industries.
