We are looking for a volunteer Video Editor to join our creative efforts in producing a series of short, engaging videos for our National Volunteer Training Modules. This opportunity will allow you to use your keen eye for style and storytelling to make a difference through fashion as a force for good.

Responsibilities

  • Edit a series of short videos based on notes provided by the relevant staff member.
  • Add subtitles accurately to make videos more accessible.
  • Embed non‑copyrighted sound (we recommend Freesound.org).
  • Ensure smooth video flow and avoid awkward silences, cut‑offs, or stagnation.
  • Incorporate re‑recorded audio or images if the content needs improvement.
  • Create engaging intros or title slides using Canva and brand‑specific fonts.

Essential Skills

  • You must be comfortable using one or more of the following editing software platforms:
  • Premiere Pro (preferred) – Subtitling and embedding functions are streamlined.
  • Final Cut Pro – Good flexibility for editing flow and visual enhancement.
  • DaVinci Resolve – Free but professional‑level tool for editing and subtitling.
  • CapCut – Useful if you have social media experience (mobile‑friendly).
  • Canva – For title cards, intros, and graphics using our brand fonts.

Please note iMovie is less preferred due to limitations with font and flexibility.

Desirable Skills

  • Demonstrated some editing experience.
  • Strong understanding of subtitling, pacing, and audio syncing.
  • Able to take initiative and label clips clearly.
  • Comfortable with feedback loops and collaborative editing.

What Will You Be Doing?

You’ll be working closely with the team to edit pre‑recorded footage into training videos that are informative, accessible, and aligned with the tone and values of Smart Works. Volunteers can attend a wide range of events, volunteer socials, and have access to our monthly volunteer forums and training. You’ll become part of the supportive and buzzing Smart Works community, consisting of over 780 volunteers across the UK.
