The School and Role
A specialist all-through school in Hillingdon, West London, the largest school SEN provision in the borough with over 300 pupils, is looking for a Childrens Mental Health Assistant to support young people and children with a diverse range of needs including moderate to severe and complex learning needs, sensory processing difficulties and associated speech, language and communication difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders. You will be working with the school’s Year 7 pupils. As a Childrens Mental Health Assistant, you will be based inside the classroom supporting students within education. Class sizes are small to ensure the needs of each pupil are met. You will be responsible for supporting their educational, social, and emotional development.
Responsibilities
- Support students’ educational, social, and emotional development in an in-class setting.
- Work with pupils with diverse needs including moderate to severe and complex learning needs, sensory processing difficulties, and autism spectrum disorders.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt activities and provide individual support as required.
Requirements
- A caring, supportive and nurturing personality.
- Experience of working with individuals who are non-verbal or pre-verbal.
- Relevant experience of working with children, young people or vulnerable adults within an education setting.
- Patience, adaptability, and a caring approach to each young person you support.
