Smart Teachers are seeking a compassionate, resilient and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school on a part-time basis from September. This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism (ASC). The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping the child access learning, develop social and emotional skills, and feel safe and supported throughout the school day.

The pupil may occasionally display behaviours that challenge, including episodes of physical dysregulation. As such, this role would suit someone who is calm, patient and confident in implementing positive behaviour support strategies while maintaining a nurturing and consistent approach.

The Role

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism.
  • Support the pupil's academic, social and emotional development throughout the school day.
  • Implement personalised learning and behaviour support strategies in line with the pupil's individual needs.
  • Build a trusting and positive relationship to promote engagement and independence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and external professionals to ensure consistent support.
  • Accurately record progress and contribute to reviews of the pupil's development.
  • Respond calmly and professionally to behaviours of concern, following the school's behaviour and safeguarding procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has previous experience supporting children with Autism and additional needs within a primary school or similar setting.
  • Has experience managing behaviours that challenge using positive behaviour support techniques.
  • Remains calm, patient and resilient in demanding situations.
  • Can build strong relationships with children, staff and parents.
  • Is flexible, proactive and committed to achieving positive outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or has equivalent experience (desirable but not essential).

About the School

This is a welcoming and inclusive primary school with a strong commitment to ensuring every child reaches their full potential. Staff work collaboratively to provide a nurturing environment where pupils feel valued, supported and encouraged to succeed. The school has a well-established SEND provision and places a strong emphasis on inclusion, early intervention and personalised support. Staff benefit from a supportive leadership team, ongoing professional development and access to specialist guidance, enabling them to deliver the highest standards of care and education.

What We Offer

  • A supportive and experienced school team committed to inclusion.
  • Competitive rates of pay through Smart Teachers.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated Smart Teachers consultant.
  • Opportunities for professional development and further SEND training.
