Smart Teachers is seeking an ambitious and inspirational Head of Modern Foreign Languages to lead a successful and growing department within a large, inclusive secondary school in North London. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced MFL practitioner with a proven track record of raising attainment and inspiring students. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across the department, driving high standards of teaching and learning while promoting a passion for languages and international culture. The department currently offers French and Spanish across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to further develop the curriculum and increase student engagement and uptake at examination level.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the MFL department, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement a challenging and engaging curriculum across all key stages.
- Monitor student progress and achievement, using data effectively to drive improvement.
- Support, coach, and develop teaching staff within the department.
- Promote innovative teaching strategies and the effective use of technology.
- Contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives and strategic planning.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can succeed.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- A degree in French, Spanish, or a related subject.
- Proven experience teaching MFL at secondary level, including GCSE.
- Previous leadership experience or the ability to demonstrate readiness for middle leadership.
- A strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to raising standards and improving outcomes for all learners.
