Smart Teachers are seeking a motivated and skilled STEM Lab Technician to join a forward-thinking secondary education setting. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a technical or engineering background who is passionate about supporting young people and helping to deliver innovative STEM learning experiences.

Working as part of a dedicated STEM team, you will play a key role in supporting the development of a hands-on engineering project, including the construction of Greenpower cars. You will manage specialist equipment, maintain workshop facilities, and provide technical guidance to students and staff, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.

The Role

  • Coordinate the procurement, setup and maintenance of STEM workshop equipment and machinery.
  • Support the construction and development of Greenpower car projects.
  • Maintain machinery including CNC equipment, welding equipment and power tools.
  • Provide technical support and training to students and staff on the safe use of equipment.
  • Ensure workshop health and safety procedures, risk assessments and compliance are maintained.
  • Monitor equipment inventories, maintenance schedules and project resources.
  • Assist with STEM workshops, events and project documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and project leads to support high-quality STEM education.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a relevant Level 2 technical qualification (or higher) in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline, or has equivalent practical experience.
  • Has experience working with technical machinery and workshop equipment.
  • Ideally has experience supporting STEM or science environments within education or industry.
  • Has strong knowledge of health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to maintain accurate records.
  • Enjoys working with young people and supporting practical learning.
  • Has excellent communication skills and can work effectively as part of a team.
