Smart Teachers is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Barnet to recruit a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a September 2026 start. This is an exciting opportunity to support a Year 2 pupil with complex needs on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the child access learning, develop social skills, and achieve positive outcomes within the classroom environment.

The pupil can present with challenging behaviour, including occasional physical aggression, so experience supporting children with high levels of need is essential. Candidates with Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive handling/restraint training will be particularly desirable.

The Role
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with additional needs.
  • Support the pupil's academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN and complex needs.
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner.
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or restraint training is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Patient, resilient, and committed to supporting children to achieve their potential.
