We are currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a busy recycling and waste operation in Leicester.
QUARRY OR RECYCLING/WASTE BACKGROUND - HIGHLY DESIRABLE
Previous experience working in a quarry, recycling, waste management, aggregates or similarly heavy industrial environment is highly desirable.
This is a dirty, dusty and heavy industrial environment, so candidates need to be comfortable working around large machinery, processing equipment and challenging site conditions.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked in a quarry or recycling/waste environment and understand the importance of keeping heavy plant and machinery running safely and efficiently.
The Role
This is a hands-on maintenance position, approximately 75% mechanical and 25% electrical.
The successful candidate will need to be confident with reactive maintenance, fault-finding and repairs, and able to diagnose and resolve problems themselves rather than relying on others.
You will also be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, regular plant inspections and forward planning to minimise machinery downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out reactive mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently.
- Maintain conveyors, shredders, motors, pumps and other industrial machinery.
- Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
- Regularly walk the plant to identify wear, faults and potential issues.
- Carry out routine inspections, lubrication and greasing of machinery.
- Forward-plan maintenance schedules and preventative work.
- Replace worn, damaged or faulty components.
- Carry out electrical fault-finding and basic electrical maintenance.
- Work with motors, sensors, switches, control panels and associated equipment.
- Support planned shutdowns, overhauls and maintenance projects.
- Identify potential equipment failures before they result in breakdowns.
- Record completed maintenance activities accurately.
- Maintain good housekeeping across engineering and plant areas.
- Follow all site health and safety procedures.
- Use appropriate isolation and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding experience.
- Ability to diagnose problems and fix them yourself.
- Previous experience maintaining heavy industrial machinery.
- Electrical qualifications and/or good electrical maintenance experience.
- Experience with conveyors, shredders, motors, pumps or similar equipment.
- Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.
- Ability to forward-plan maintenance schedules.
- Proactive approach to inspecting plant and identifying potential issues.
- Good understanding of health and safety and machinery isolation.
- Quarry or recycling/waste experience is highly desirable.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Flexibility to travel to other local sites when required.
