Field Service Engineer – Water Recycling Systems
Location: Knottingley – applicants must live within approximately 1 hour
Salary: Up to £16.00 per hour, depending on experience
Overnight Allowance: £30 per night
Contract: 3 months initially, with potential to extend
Working Pattern: Flexible, depending on business needs
Travel: UK-wide, with regular overnight stays
About the Role
We are recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to join a specialist water recycling services business on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential for the position to be extended longer term.
Based from Knottingley, you will travel to customer sites throughout the UK, typically working between Monday and Thursday, servicing and maintaining wash pad water recycling systems.
This is a practical, hands‑on role and would suit someone who is reliable, trustworthy and comfortable getting stuck in. Previous experience within water recycling or water treatment is not essential. What matters most is having a strong practical attitude, being comfortable using hand tools, and being willing to learn.
You will work alongside an experienced engineer, receiving full training and support while carrying out servicing, cleaning, inspections, fault‑finding and component replacement on customer systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to customer sites throughout the UK.
- Service and maintain wash pad water recycling systems.
- Carry out planned servicing and preventative maintenance.
- Clean wash pads, filters and system components.
- Inspect pumps, compressors, fuel tanks and interceptors.
- Fault‑find and troubleshoot equipment.
- Replace pumps, compressors, filters and other components.
- Carry out general practical maintenance and repairs.
- Keep customer sites clean, safe and tidy.
- Complete service records and job paperwork.
- Liaise professionally with customers while on site.
- Follow company health and safety procedures.
- Report faults, issues and incidents appropriately.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Practical, hands‑on and mechanically minded.
- Reliable, trustworthy and dependable.
- Comfortable using a range of hand tools.
- Happy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Comfortable getting dirty and working around wastewater.
- Able to identify faults and solve basic mechanical problems.
- Willing to learn new skills and equipment.
- Happy to travel extensively throughout the UK.
- Comfortable staying away from home during the working week.
- Customer‑focused with good communication skills.
- Able to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Physically capable of carrying out hands‑on maintenance work.
- A holder of a full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
The following would be advantageous, although they are not essential:
- OFTEC qualification.
- Previous engineering, mechanical or maintenance experience.
- Experience working with pumps or compressors.
- Experience in water treatment, water recycling or similar systems.
- FLT licence.
- Current DBS check.
