Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum (Permanent Role)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday (flexibility required due to operational demands) 24/6 operational environment

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Site Manager to take full responsibility for our Barkston processing facility. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role within a fast-paced waste and recycling environment. The successful candidate will lead from the front, ensuring full operational control, compliance, safety, and performance across the site. You will play a key role in delivering operational efficiency, maintaining regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across all site functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Act as the site safety leader and promote a zero-harm culture
    • Ensure full compliance with environmental permits, H&S legislation, and EA requirements
    • Maintain Safe Systems of Work, RAMS, and permits
    • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions
    • Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings
    • Ensure site readiness for audits and inspections
  • Operations & Plant Management
    • Full responsibility for daily site operations
    • Oversee waste processing, material handling, and offtake activities
    • Maximise plant performance, uptime, and efficiency
    • Manage mobile and static plant operations
    • Support maintenance planning and downtime reduction
    • Apply strong operational and mechanical understanding to resolve issues
  • Leadership & People Management
    • Lead, manage, and develop all site personnel
    • Ensure correct staffing levels across operations
    • Oversee recruitment, training, and development
    • Set clear performance expectations and manage underperformance
    • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety
  • Commercial & Performance
    • Manage site costs and operational efficiency
    • Support budgeting and cost control processes
    • Monitor KPIs and drive performance improvements
    • Ensure output aligns with commercial requirements and contracts
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Work closely with Engineering, SHEQ, Compliance, and Commercial teams
    • Liaise with regulators, contractors, and external partners
    • Represent the site in operational and regional meetings
    • Support wider business strategy and operational delivery

About You

  • Proven experience in a Site Manager or senior operational leadership role
  • Strong background in waste, recycling, or heavy industrial environments
  • Excellent knowledge of health & safety and environmental compliance
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Hands-on, practical approach to operations
  • Strong understanding of plant and equipment
  • WAMITAB / COTC qualification (essential)
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
